  1. Select the tools and settings icon from the top menu bar



  2. Under tools, select either active users or manage users

  3. Select the New User button, located at the top of the page next to the page title. It is also located at the bottom of the page.

  4. Enter the new user details

Authenticate By: determines if the user’s details will be saved on the internal appliance or the Far Edge Active Directory.

Username: The name that the user will use to log into your Wise Owl Legal software with.

Login Timeout: The time frame that Wise Owl Legal will automatically log off, if the software is left inactive. This is only a failsafe and should not be relied upon to log out of Wise Owl Legal.

Initial Password Style: Choosing a complex, strong password is essential in keeping unauthorised people from assessing your data. A good password has the following characteristics:

  • It is hard for someone else to guess
  • It is easy for you to remember
  • It is not reused on another website

Wise Owl Legal can automatically generate you a passphrase to use as your password. A passphrase is a series of unrelated words strung together, for example ‘correct horse battery staple’. 

Require Two Factor Authentication: this allows users to access Wise Owl Legal outside of the office on and on multiple devices and as such is usually enabled for the company’s principles and any solicitors. 

Email Address: please not that if an email address is assigned to two or more users, the option to reset their password via email will not be available. 

Roles: A quick way to allocate individual user rights is by selecting the most appropriate user role.
