How can I access my Documents back end?
Wise Owl Legal is passionate about ensuring that each law firm has access to back up their own documents at any point.
This is done through the Documents Back End.Â
This should only be accessed by high level users to back up their Documents. While you can save documents into this backend and have them appear in the OWL, Wse Owl Legal recommends that you use the front facing Uploading screen.
Details about this screen can be found on the Document Upload page.
Important:Â If you have logged out and try to access your Document back end, you will need to login again to be able to access them.Â
Wise Owl Legal is passionate about your security and wants to ensure that your documents are secure at all times behind your individual login.
Never give out your login or password!
We recommend that you pin the Documents location to your quick access bar in your Windows Explorer
What is my Documents path?
Within a Windows Explorer browser, you will need to enter your Documents path to access the back end.Â
Your documents path is different based on the version of Windows you are running. Please enter the relevant path into your Windows Explorer address bar from the options below.
Once you have the correct path, Windows Explorer will ask for your login. This is the same as your Wise Owl Login.
Win 10
\\<your firm URL\docs\
e.g. \\demo.wiseowllegal.com.au\docs\
Win 7
\\<your firm URL>@SSL\docs
e.g. \\demo.wiseowllegal.com.au@SSL\docs\
For those experiencing difficulty, please try the following path:
https://<your firm URL>/docs/
e.g. https://demo.wiseowllegal.com.au/docs/
Â
You can also easily find the path by opening a document from Wise Owl in Microsoft Word.
Click on File > Info > Copy Path
Paste the path into your Windows/File Explorer and just copy the section up to the status (as per the highlighted path below)
Map this copied section of the path as a Network drive (instructions below)
How to map the Documents Back End as a Drive
Once you have established what the correct path is for your Back End (based on your version of Windows), you have the option of mapping this location so that it is listed as a drive.
This will then show up next to your other drives e.g. near 'C Drive' , 'Documents' etc
To map the drive, open a File Explorer / Windows Explorer on your computer.
Navigate to the Easy Access button. This should be located under the Home tab.
Choose the Map as drive option from the drop down.
Set the Drive letter (We recommend 'W' for Wise Owl but it can be any letter) and enter in the folder location (documents path) that you tested earlier.
Click on Finish. You may need to login using your Wise Owl credentials if a screen pops up for this.
Once logged in, you will have a mapped network drive for your documents location to assist you in accessing the back end of your Wise Owl documents.
Troubleshooting
Why doesn't my login to the Documents in Windows Explorer work?
Windows controls logins to files on Windows Explorer and stores the cookies, history and cache in Internet Options. You may need to clear the cookies which assist with logging in the Documents of Wise Owl.
Clear Cookies & Cache
1. Clear Data via Internet Options
Click on Start and type Internet Options.
Open Internet Options.
Click Delete…
Select Cookies and the click Delete
Close the Internet Options/Properties window.
When you now attempt to access your Wise Owl documents you should be asked to enter your Wise Owl username and password, this should only happen the first time you do this, after that point your Windows system should store a new Cookie which avoids the need for you to login every time.
If you are not asked to enter your credentials, please restart Windows and then try access the documents.
2. Clear Data via Internet Explorer
Another method of achieving this is via Internet Explorer.
View the video on the QuickVid page on how to clear the Internet Explorer history, cookies, cache and passwords.
Go to Tools > Internet Options
Select the 'Delete' option
Confirm the items to be deleted and then select 'Delete'
Close Internet Explorer and access the Windows Explorer to see the back end documents.
