Contacts - Deleting Vs Making Inactive

If you are no longer going to be using a contact, or did not want the contact to be created to begin with, you have the option of either Deleting or making the contact inactive.

These two options should be applied for different scenarios

  • Contact not used anywhere else in system yet - Delete

  • Contact used in system e.g. attached to matter/transaction - make inactive

All the options above must be done from inside the contact. A contact can be accessed by going to the Contact ID tab across the top navigation bar and then using the search function to find the contact.

How to make inactive

  1. From inside the contact, scroll down to the bottom of the first tab, just above Contact Details.

  2. Untick the Active checkbox

  3. Save the contact

How to delete

  1. From inside the contact, scroll down to the bottom of the page and on the far right click on the red delete button.

If this button is greyed out, this contact will have been used elsewhere in the system and you should use make inactive option or edit the contact as needed.

  2. You will need to confirm that you are deleting this contact and read the warning message before continuing.

Changing contact details

An alternative to the two options above is to change the details held for that contact if they are not correct.

This can be done by going into the contact and making changes as needed.

You can then save the contact and those changes will be reflected in the system.
