TODO - how to install add-ons, 3rd party dictionaries or activate support. Depending on what browser you are using. KMc: MacQuarie Dictionary please
Need to do these steps for Firefox
As Wise Owl Legal is browser based software it is important to note the the spell checking function comes from the browser itself not the Wise Owl Legal software. Therefore, during the set up of Wise Owl Legal it is recommended that spell checking is enabled on your preferred browser.
...
To set your spell checker on Google Chrome:
Select the Chrome
...
menu on the browser toolbar
Select Settings
...
Select show advanced settings from the bottom of the page
...
Select languages and input settings from the language section
In the languages column identify what language is currently used for spell checking, If the language you require is not available to select, click add and find your preferred language
...
...
Note that some users prefer to user English (UK) rather than English (Australia). After testing of the Google Chrome English (Australia) spell checking function it has been discovered that the browser does not differentiate between s and z in certain words. This emphasises the importance of proofreading all invoices before they are sent to the client.Once the requested language is chosen, select display in this language and spell checking for this language as shown below:
Select Finished
Close all Chrome browsers and relaunch to ensure the language change takes effect.
Note that in Wise Owl Legal, Google Chrome only shows incorrectly spelt words (indicated by the red underline) in the field you are currently typing in. Once you tab off a field all words, whether correctly or incorrectly spelt, will appear without a red underline.
...
To select your spell checker on Internet Explorer:
Select tools from the top menu bar
Select 'Manage add-ons'
Select 'Spelling Correction' from the left hand menu bar
Select English (Australia) from the available list
Ensure Enable spelling correction is ticked
...
Close
Close all Internet Explorer browsers and relaunch to ensure the language change takes effect
Note that in Internet Explorer spell checking often autocorrects words as you type (e.g. if you time type speltt your IE browser will change this to spelt).
Karen, here are several 3rd party dictionary plugins for Web Browsers. You need to evaluate them to determine if they meet your requirements. If they don't we'll need to spend more time editing them or making a custom dictionary. Or you may want to talk to the publishers of the Macquarie Dictionary and see if they have a web browser plugin.
Two for Firefox, the first looks better maintained:
- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/english-australian-dictionary/
Internet Explorer is more complex. IE 8 and 9 have no spell checking built in; here are two plugins which provide spelling support (I have not tested either, both require licenses for commercial use):
IE 10 has spell checking built in in Windows 8. You may need to install a language pack for Australian English though:
IE 10 on Windows 7 apparently has a spell checker built in, although some people have complained about it. You'll need to test this scenario to see if we need to provide more support here.
I don't have any information about Safari or Macs. They are currently listed as a supported platform, so we either need to a) test them and find plugins / settings as appropriate or b) not support them!Spell checking is available on IE 11 on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. Spell checking is available for Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.
Older versions of Internet Explorer and Windows are not supported for Wise Owl Legal.
Mozilla Firefox
Check that your Automatic spell check is on by pressing the menu button on the top right of the browser > Options > Advanced > General tab
Tick Check my spelling as I type
Note: Automatic spell-checking is only turned on for text boxes containing more than one line, where you can enter as much text as you want.
How to Add Dictionaries in Firefox:
Right click on the text > Languages > Add dictionaries
...
If you do not have the language option then select Check Spelling and the languages option should appear
...
Following these steps will take you to a list of dictionaries that you can install and use.
Scroll down to English (Australian) and install it.
...
After the dictionary is installed, right click on the word/text and open languages again.
You should now have a choice between the standard dictionary and the new installed one.
If it doesn't appear straight away, you may need to refresh your browser.
