The Accounting and Finance Module

This page will explain some key features that you can access through this module and how they relate to billing.

Time Billing

The Wise Owl Legal time billing function allows you to enter time for the day for yourself or others in the organisation.

The time sheet register can be viewed in either units, hours or minutes.

This can be edited by going to settings > my settings. Do not use appliance settings > time billing as this only changes the settings for future users.

The default time units also affects the 'Enter Time Records' screen.

You can find more information on the Time Billing Register page.

Disbursements

This category is for any outlays or disbursements that the firm makes. There are two types of Disbursements - Pay Now (Credit Card, Cheque etc) and Pay Later (Accounts Payable).

You can find more information on the Disbursements Register page.

Recoveries

Recoveries are used when charging a client for use of a business provided service or product that has already been paid for. Recoveries can be referred to as outlays that have been Paid Already. This amount, unlike an outlay, can be marked up.
For example, your business may charge a client $1.00 per page of photocopying. This would be charged out as a recovery.

You can find more information on the Recoveries Register page.

Invoicing

Invoicing is the step that will create a bill for the client after you have entered time or fixed fees and any recoveries. There are various statuses of invoices which must be paid close attention.
These are detailed more on the Invoice Register page.

External Accounting

This section is primarily used for connecting to your External Accounting system.

This will record all items that are posted successfully, any errors in posting and queries for the system for Wise Owl to react upon.

You can find more information on the External Accounting Register page

Lists

The Lists area is for bringing in items from the External Accounting System that will help connect, any typing shortcuts, bank types etc.

This area controls what options you are given when creating new clients and your own customer fields.

You can find more information on the Lists Register page
