How do I add multiple contacts to a matter?
When you have multiple contacts on a matter, it is important to ensure all contacts are listed against that matter.
Wise Owl Legal has the functionality to allow you to add all the contacts onto a matter to ensure they are all listed correctly.
Setup:
Adding multiple contacts to a matter is done inside that particular matter.
For help on creating a new matter, click on this link How to create a matter
Once you have completed the initial setup for your matter, you are ready to add multiple contacts.
First, ensure you have created each person or entity related to the matter as separate contacts.
For help setting up contacts, click on this link How to create a contact
To add the contacts to the Matter:
From inside your matter, click on the Clients and Contact to open that section.
On the left-hand side, you will have a list of all the clients associated with that matter. On the right-hand side, you have any other contacts related to the matter.
From the left-hand side, choose the green 'Add Client' button to add a new line to the client's side.
You will then be able to search for a client in the line that opens up. Choose your client from the drop-down list.
Continue to add additional clients until all of the associated clients are added to that matter. Delete any empty lines to avoid errors.
Next, you will need to set the Primary Client. This is the client that will be the main contact for the matter. You are still able to contact all clients, however Wise Owl requires a primary contact for each matter.
To set the Primary Client, use the up and down arrows on the right-hand side of the client list. The contact that is first on the list will be the primary client.
IMPORTANT: Once you have created finance or trust transactions using this matter, you will no longer be able to update the primary client so it is recommended to set up at the start of a matter.
Once you have made those changes, Save your matter details.
You can check the Primary Client after this by opening the Matter Details tab and looking at the Primary Client listed at the top.
