User Roles and Access

This page will go into some of the detail on User Roles and Access.

Definitions

A Role is a set of rights assigned to a user based on their generic level of access in your organisation

A Right is a single permission in your Wise Owl database that can be granted or denied to a user either within their role or as a separate override.

How to view the Role and Rights for a User

To view a user’s current level of access, navigate to the Settings Cog on the top right of the navigation bar.

From here, choose Manage Users

Under the Manage Users page, it will show a list of all the active users in your database. You can click on a Username to view further details for this user. (You must have the right to edit Users which the Power User in your firm will have).

Underneath a Username, you can view the user’s current role by clicking the Roles option. You can select one or multiple depending on the type of actions the user takes.

The User’s current Rights are listed under the tab below.

How to manually grant or deny a right

Please be aware that manually granting or denying a right for a user will override their current role. Certain aspects of the program are limited to ensure that inconsistencies and errors in rights do not occur. Please speak to the Wise Owl Legal Helpdesk if you need assistance.

To override a specific right, from the user’s profile, go down to the Rights Oferrides tab.

From here, you will see the current security rights listed with their current permission.

Scroll down the right that you wish to edit and change the ‘Use Role’ to either Grant or Deny.

Once you have edited the relevant rights, scroll to the bottom of the page and press save.

The next time that user refreshes their Wise Owl page, their rights will be updated.
